The GOGOGO project was a data sprint that was held from 12 – 26 November 2016 in Amsterdam. The aim was to log customer journeys of people on the Knowledge Mile: the area that runs from the Nieuwmarkt to the Amstel train station. The data sprint was organized by the Citizen Data Lab, in collaboration with the Media Information and Communication program of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Calibro (IT), and Dutch Railways (NS). 300+ students participated to collect over 206 routes, more than 94,000 unique data entries and over 98 hours of logged route data.
Data can be explored in several different ways; by looking at individual journeys, by looking at the collaborate effort and by looking at different Points of Interest in the area. View the website here.
By using the GOGOGO app (iOS and Android) students were able to track their route with their smartphone. While using this app the students indicated whether they were walking, cycling or traveling via public transport. This data is stored in our database and visualized in a webapp that can be viewed here.
By doing this we can create an map of the accessibility of the city and prefered routes through the city. Furthermore a map can be created which are the fastest routes through a city or where bottlenecks in the city are. By presenting these findings to the municipality and users they will become able to act on these datasets. We can then continue to use this tool as a monitoring tool to see changes in the situation.
During a first pilot during an event called Students In Motion more than 200 students downloaded the app and loged more than 300 routes. The results of this pilot can been seen at https://uf0.github.io/gogogo-report/.
